So I have been challenged lately in quite a few places, most recently in talking to a member of the Country Club where I work in the Fitness Center. On my 45-minute drive to and from work everyday, our conversation has kept running through my head for the last week. After first hitting me straight up with the Gospel, which apparently he does to everyone he comes across, we got into a very lengthy and deep conversation about how great it is walking with Christ and how we are truly created to live as we walk with Him. Although this is nowhere near everything we talked about, here are some areas where he really challenged me:
- He has an unbelievable heart for the lost. The man is 76 years young and has lost many friends over recent years. That being said, he is so deeply troubled by the fact that some of his friends do not truly know Jesus. This feeling of deep sadness really hit close to home during our conversation, realizing my friends are not promised any more days than his, who just happen to be in their seventies.
- I realized how often I am after a quick fix in my life rather than truly trusting Jesus to be my provider and my healer. He told stories about churches in South America that are thriving and seeing unbelievable miracles because the people there, both economically and culturally, have no other option but to fully trust JESUS!
- This new friend of mine is a very wealthy and successful businessman, but he reminded me once again what is truly important in life. He kept telling me how important it is for our generation to seek out those that are not as fortunate as we are... It is not enough to sit back and go through the motions of what our culture accepts as walking with Christ. There are too many people in the world, who have not yet been reached by the Gospel, for the church to have an inward focus.
So what is the point of all of this…I have to stop sitting around accepting complacency and going through the motions. People are in dire NEED of the Gospel. As Christians, we are the body…we are the messengers…God doesn’t need us but he uses us and so many people really need the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel. I need to step out in faith BOLDLY….It is time for me to get out of my little bubble and focus on the mission of CHRIST!
“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; Hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal but be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, constant in prayer.” Romans 12:9-12
Not as long-winded as I would have anticipated ;) <3 it Swayne!
